Many quilt patterns call for strips & squares, especially the 2 1/2 inch size. I have learned to cut & keep these sizes handy. There are times I want to begin a new project but cannot decide which one. So I begin cutting strips from my stash and my thoughts come into focus. The ready cut strips & squares safe time, especially when I want to make a quick gift, like place mats.
This also helps keep my sewing room neat because it organizes those little pieces of assorted colors left over form past projects.
I have other sizes as well but seem to use the 2 1/2 inch sizes the most.
I keep them in inexpensive clear bins which makes it easy to see the colors.
