Thatcher Park, NY

This park on an escarpment, south of Albany NY, has beautiful views any time of the year but I like the autumn views the best.

Bermuda

My husband & I have cruised to Bermuda several times. The first time was out honeymoon, many years ago. The islands are beautiful. I love the pastel colored, white roofed houses, the brilliant colored flowers & the beaches. We usually rent a moped to tour around.

Travel Quilts Wall Hangings

Last year I took a wonderful trip out West with college friends. We went to Mount Rushmore, the Tetons, Yellowstone, Devil’s Tower, Crazy Horse & more. We visited gift shops at these places & I found small printed panels. There were photos of the National Parks on fabric. I had never seen those before. I bought one package at each park. When I returned home I put those together to make Western Wonders Wall hangings for myself & my friends.

We friends are about to embark on another trip. This year we are headed to Spain & Portugal. I decided to make wall hangings again, this time in advance. I designed our little wall hangings myself. The center piece is a suitcase with ‘stickers’ showing the countries we will visit. I’ll present these at our bon voyage party.

My wall hanging has more ‘stickers’ because I have & will be doing lots of traveling this year.

Can you find the fabric that is included in all these wall hangings?

The Finger Lakes, NY: the Home of great Wines!

My husband & I love to spend a weekend in the Finger Lakes any time of year. We usually go to Seneca Lake although we have gone to others as well. Sometimes we go alone & sometimes with our children and their significant others. The lake, the hills, the wines are all glorious. There are many delicious places to eat. Some wineries have restaurants. There are farms, an occasional Amish buggy, flowers, Watkins Glenn Park, boat rides and shady trees. Of course, we’ve been there for more than one rainy weekend but still had lots of fun. The wineries are open year round and tasting fees are small.

McDowell Grove Co Forest Preserve, Illinois

Small bit of rural beauty in Naperville, Illinois. Lots of wild flowers.

Take a walk here! You’ll be glad you did.

Historic Kingston, NY

Established in 1652 as the third settlement in the Dutch colony of New Netherland, an active participant in the American Revolution, and a major river-port during New York’s 19th-century canal and steamboat era, Kingston boasts a history that spans over 300 years. Kingston was the first capital of New York State.

Each house has charming details such as shuttered windows and lamp lit doorways.

The Tetons, Wyoming

I took these photos of the Tetons while rafting on the Snake River in September 2012. It is amazingly beautiful.

Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge

Seneca Falls, NY

A beautiful wetlands area for waterfowl and wetland dependent wildlife. The refuge provides resting, feeding and nesting habitat. It is situated in one of the most active flight lanes in the Atlantic Flyway. There are also wooded areas and grasslands. Bald eagles & Osprey are among the birds there. Other animals include: deer, muskrats, turtles, etc.

My husband & I have driven along the NYS Thruway many times, looking at the refuge alongside the highway. We finally stopped and visited. It is amazingly peaceful and lovely with sounds of birds singing.

The visitors’ center includes a gift shop, lots of information and an osprey webcam. It is free to walk or drive along the trails.

Chicago

Chicago

Just took a weekend trip to Chicago: walked the Magnificent Mile; saw the Old Water Tower & had drinks in the Signature Room of the Hancock Tower. The Signature Room had wonderful views and there is no fee to go up. Of course, the drinks & snacks are not inexpensive. The Old Water Tower was built in 1869 and was one of a few buildings to survive the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. Water Tower Place is an upscale shopping location.
